Volunteer Nurse Program
St. Anthony's Medical Center has a volunteer program for registered nurses who enjoy personal contact with patients and families and are willing to volunteer their time and talents for a few hours a week.
This program is ideal for nurses who:

- want to ease back into the field, after taking time off to raise their families
- don’t want the commitment of regular hours
- want to be connected with nursing and the hospital
- retired and want to contribute to their community in a professional way
Volunteer RN duties
Volunteer duties involve interpersonal communication with patients and their families – the reason people like being nurses. Volunteers also assist the nursing staff in many ways, from taking vital signs to providing emotional support to patients and families to mentoring new nurses. Nurse volunteers have a supportive and enhancement role, rather than a primary care role, and a preceptor to assist them.
Volunteers can choose from many different areas of the Medical Center to volunteer, including the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care waiting room or on the nursing floors – wherever they are most comfortable.
Volunteer RNs DO need to:
- submit to a background check
- complete required educational competencies
Volunteer RNs DO NOT need:
- an active license (St. Anthony’s assists with license updating)
