Offering an Irreplaceable Experience
Mentoring the next generation of therapists: It’s a time-consuming job,
one that requires a special investment of time by St. Anthony’s and its
staff. Time, according to Deni Levick, Director of Therapy Services, very well
spent. “We take a lot of pride in our contribution toward building a
community of qualified, dedicated therapists,”
says Levick.

- 16 students trained as occupational and physical therapy assistants in FY07
- Contracts active with 15+ universities, colleges 6 and community colleges
Over the years, St. Anthony’s has earned a reputation as a great place for students to complete their clinical rotations or internships in fields such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.“ That’s because we offer a range of excellent opportunities on site, with our outstanding acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehab programs,” Levick says. “There aren't a lot of health care facilities that are able or willing to offer all those levels of care as an internship opportunity. A definite plus for our interns is our additional level of expertise and certification in the assessment and treatment of spine, hand and lymphedema.”
The spirit of service also plays a key role in the effectiveness of the effort,
Levick notes. “Many of our staff therapists love to teach. They take
this charge very seriously – and mentor students extensively, to assure
that their textbook knowledge translates into the appropriate types of assessment
and treatments for patients. That’s what makes it such a valuable experience.”
One measure of the impact: St. Anthony’s has active therapy internship programs with well over a dozen universities, colleges and community colleges in the region. “It’s an important way for us to ‘give back’ – by helping to train great therapists for our community,” Levick says.
