Multidisciplinary Follow-up
The rehabilitation physician, prosthetist and therapist examine amputees together to assess for prosthesis readiness and check progress. Patients also may receive other services from a social worker, dietitian, diabetic educator, skin/wound nurse, recreation therapist or psychologist. This provides a convenient, comprehensive “one-stop” approach to medical care.
Support System
Often the best support is found in shared experiences. Volunteer mentors are available to visit with patients during their stay at St. Anthony’s Medical Center and after discharge. Patients are paired with a mentor who shares similar amputation/rehabilitation experiences and general interests. This frequently lasting and mutually beneficial relationship provides helpful information and support during the rehabilitation process.
